Music video for experimental electronic piece This Is All Wrong from the album THIS IS ALL WRONG by 111R, released by Aural Prism in 2023. The album serves as the soundtrack to a story of an inevitable ecological catastrophe, the end of the human world, and what might follow, narrated by machines from the future.
The title of both the piece and the album is derived from the opening words of Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg's speech at the United Nations summit. The visual layer of the work contains hallucinatory, futuristic images of this event, generated and transformed by AI. They suggest that we may be dealing with fragmented memories, imbued with narrative clichรฉs and aesthetics, replayed by non-human actors in a distant future.
Depictions reminiscent of a computer game intertwine with visual and musical references to Wagner's Tristan und Isolde (Bayreuth Festspielhaus, Barenboim, Ponnelle, 1983) and the dystopian character of expressionist silent cinema, giving these memories a form of an elegy created by thinking machines. These machines report on the course of an apocalypse that was foretold and precisely calculated using human-made computer systems, while simultaneously being enacted through the use of industrial machinery, mechanized production processes, and autonomous war machines.
